If you enjoy going on hikes throughout the many natural areas of eastern Maine, but would enjoy them more if others joined you and if there was a natural history science focus, then you might want to consider organizing one or more hikes in Washington and Hancock Counties.
Organizers do not need to have expertise in natural history science. The institute can help with suggestions of specialists who enjoy volunteering to share what they know. Some may be instructors or program participants at the Institute.
Groups can meet afterwards at Eagle Hill for coffee or tea, use of the 8,000 volume natural history science library, and use microscopes followup studies.
Field trip cataloging project ... It is helpful to have one group member take notes of interesting observations. These can be archived and edited as annotated species lists.
