Members of the Friends of Meteorites are intrigued by meteorites, especially the ones in the growing collection at Eagle Hill. They understand that having a collection of meteorites is the beginning of a fascinating journey in learning about them and where in the universe they may have come from.
Thousands of meteorites are available on ebay.com on an auction or buy-now basis. Intriguing smaller (1–3 inch) whole meteorites and sectioned ones costing $50 or less are readily available by searching for the word, "meteorite". There are, of course, many "showy" ones that cost many hundreds and thousands of dollars, but these are not a primary goal of building our teaching collection.
Members each donate one meteorite to the collection each calendar year by way of their $50 annual membership. Browsing ebay.com is very enjoyable, although a bit bewildering. Members are welcome to confer with the collection manager about ones that intrigue them.
Instrumentation and techniques ... Near-term goals for the collection are to acquire instrumentation to study meteorites and to work through techniques for properly handling them.
