The Meteorite Collection

The meteorite collection at Eagle Hill is slowly growing. The following ones are pending verification by experts. They were either donated, traded, or purchased. Some determinations are likely to be incorrect. Some may not actually be meteorites.

What is not a meteorite?

Meteoritical Bulletin Database of the Meteoritical Society ... Meteorites listed with an MBD numeber are official meteorite names. Information about them can be found in the Database.

Instrumentation and techniques ... We are seeking funding to acquire instrumentation to section and study meteorites. The near-term goal is to work through techniques for properly handling them so that we can make our own determinations.

Friends of the meteorite collection

0028 ... Ureilite. Northwest Africa. 3.3 grams.

MBD # NWA 16159.

Rare. High percentage of carbon in form of graphite and nano-diamonds. Difficult to polish. Some ureilites contain amino acids.
0027 ... Carbonaceous chondrite CK6. Northwest Africa. 9.4 grams.

MBD # NWA 15758. A rare primitive chondrite. Only 4.6% of meteor falls are carbonaceous chondrites.
