Advisory Board members - We seek mentoring from experts in the fields of astronomy and meteorites and from those who have taken it upon themselves to play leading roles in facilitating a greater interest in astronomy.
Program manager - We are seeking a part-time program manager. This is a year-round entry-level position for someone who has broad interests in astronomy, a passion for inspiring others, and administrative and personal skills to help us build the astronomy program. This is a compensated position.
Online seminar instructor - Our online science seminar series (Link) is ready to list seminars on astronomy. We are looking for astronomers who would enjoy teaching seminars with five 2-hour classes. While we suggest starting out with introductory- and intermediate-level seminars, we can consider offeringadvanced seminars. Seminars can be scheduled 1 month after the seminar has been posted, along with an attractive flyer. There is an honorarium.
In-person lecture presenter - Our annual in-person summer lecture series (Link) is also ready to list lectures on astronomy. We are looking for astronomers who are amenable to giving a 1-hour lecture for a general audience, including time for questions. Participants may sign up for an optional dinner afterwards with the presenter. We need 2-weeks notice for planning and publicity. These are voluntary opportunities for astronomers who plan on traveling to eastern Maine and for whom the lecture is a pleasant stopover point. We can generally provide overnight accommodations. Lectures are mostly offered on a Wednesday or Thursday at 5:00.
Online lecture presenter - We have not yet offered online lectures on any subject, but are amenable to doing so in the field of astronomy. We are looking for astronomers who would enjoy giving a 1 hour lecture, including time for questions. From the experiences of Maine astronomy clubs, it is reasonable to expect that this will play a major role in helping us to build an interest in our Friends of Astronomy group and in our eventual Astronomy Club.
Meteorite specialist - We are looking for a volunteer specialist who can help us to envisage what it will mean to have a meteorite collection within the specific setting of Eagle Hill, as described here, with the goal of developing research and teaching capablities.
Telescope intern - We are looking for 2 friends who would like to intern to learn how to use our 16" Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope to develop their own astronomy project. Training is available.
html webpage coder - Our astronomy website is straight html and thus relatively easy to maintain and expand. We would welcome help with this.
