The Institute offers programs that are of interest to guests from surrounding communities who enjoy coming to Eagle Hill for a day visit. If you come early, you are welcome to hike the trails and immerse yourself in the serene scenic beauty of the mossy woods, stunning panoramic vistas from the overlooks, and fresh salt air of the ocean, or to explore worlds within the 9,000 books on mostly natural history, plus 1,000 books on art history. The road and parking area are plowed and sanded in the winter by the onsite staff prior to events, as needed.
Global community ... Considered more broadly, in a very real sense, the community of the institute is also global, by way of its programs and its journals.
Programs |
Events are added to their respective calendars as they are scheduled, often just 2–3 weeks before their start. This gives us great flexibility to insert special events that could not have been anticipated earlier.
Concerts ... Concerts are held throughout the year, but mostly during the fall, winter, and spring.
Forums ... Forums on national and internation affairs are intermittently offered.
Lectures ... Lectures are mostly offered during summer months.
Movies ... Movies can be offered when a host volunteers to give an introductory lecture that places a movie of their choice within its literary, social, and historical context. This is in keeping within copyright and licensing laws.
Resources |
Internet ... This is provided by the Maine School and Library Network by way of a T1 line.
Meeting and banquet venue ... As a public service, the Institute occasionally makes its Commons Building available for events for other organizations, as well as for private gatherings.
