Forums on National and International Affairs - 3 Formats

Each of the 3 Forum formats is intended to inspire a free-flowing sharing of and discussion of observations, By "free flowing", we mean that discussions are expected to be disciplined, in the sense that what the topics are and who the speakers are will be continually shifting in a courteous way.

Online Discussion Forums - These Forums tend to take a retrospective perspective on national and international affairs. Their online format begins with a 15–30 minute formal presentation by a guest expert. They tend to touch upon aspects of diplomacy.

Online Regional Portals - By way of online Portals into regions of the world that are much in the news and that are worthy of nuanced discussions about what is being presented in the media, the institute hosts opportunities for people within these regions to broadly share their in-the-moment perspectives with others. The Portals have a format somewhat similar to a panel discussion, in that they are hosted, but do not have formal presentations.

Hybrid Forums ... Some Discussion Forums and Regional Portals are offered on a hybrid basis with both online participation and in-person participation at Eagle Hill, with an optional dinner afterwards. This format draws much inspiration from the format of the European grand salons of 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries.

Online Seminars - Seminars on aspects of national and international affairs, especially ones that touch upon aspects of diplomacy, are under discussion. As envisaged at this time, they will be offered online and will offer formal presentations in 2 hour units over multiple days.

Participants need to have a free zoom.us account in order to participate.

Suggestions ... We welcome suggestions for Forum topics and presenters. The formats are adapted to meet each presenter's preferences.
