To all who envisage the future of music at Eagle Hill,
The commitment of Eagle Hill to the world of music has been evolving since 2012. There is a broad consensus that its chamber concerts are an important part of the overall missions of the institute, since they contribute in deeply emotional ways to the cultural setting within which the institute's primary natural history science missions play out. We are now at the moment in time where the music program is well positioned to boldy expand what it can offer by way of the construction of a dedicated wing for it within the planned year-round cultural and events center on the western slope of Eagle Hill.
How can we start to understand the future of the music program?
Accomplished musicians ... It is important to first recognize that our chamber concerts are offered by highly accomplished musicians who travel the world to share their passion for music. This includes musicians from other countries who come to visit their Maine colleagues and who then join them while here for a concert at Eagle Hill.
A pleasant social setting ... Next, it is important to recognize that Eagle Hill offers an amiable social setting within which concerts are offered. Of special note are the optional after-concert dinners for guests who choose to make an extended evening of it by lingering afterwards with the musicians and other guests. Opportunities like this are truly rare. They contribute to intimacy and a growing sense of "family" among the musicians and guests.
A pattern and tangible sense of momentum ... There is curiosity about the music program. Who will be performing next? Who will the guests be at the next concert? How and in what ways will the music program keep evolving by way of the cultural and events center?
Restructuring the Board of Trustees … We are diversifying the Board of the institute to expand the institute's ability to refine its missions and to take on new missions. This will mean forming a semi-autonomous Board for the music program which will be responsible for setting its own mission goals and for its own fundraising efforts. We welcome nominations.
There are a number of ways to support the music program at Eagle Hill.
Membership ... We invite you to join the innovative Friends of Music at Eagle Hill, a group that has been supporting the music program with their annual membership and active involvement. As ambassadors of the music program, they play a lead role in extending complimentary invitations to those who have never come to a concert evening at Eagle Hill.
Donations ... Donations are much needed and greatly appreciated. We are seeking donations for the construction of a cultural and events center on the western slope of Eagle Hill, with the goal of meeting the interests of our growing audience, expanding our programming, and better supporting our musicians. Donations are promptly acknowledged and are tax deductible under IRS guidelines, since Eagle Hill is a nonprofit tax-exempt (501(c)(3) organization.
Volunteering ... Volunteers are playing ever more important roles with facilitating the music program. Some help onsite during concerts. Others help with aspects of this fundraising campaign such as grant writing and relationship building.
