Airplane

The nearest major airport is Bangor. It has regularly scheduled flights by Delta and American Airlines. Some people prefer to fly to Portland. Cape Air offers inexpensive 9-passenger flights from Boston to Bar Harbor/Trenton. Cars may be rented at all 3 airports.

Bus to Bangor

An express Concord Trailways bus travels from Boston to Portland and Bangor (4:15 hours, 2 movies are shown, 207-945-4000, 800-639-3317). Concord also offers local bus service from Portland to Bangor via Coastal Route 1.

Bus from Bangor to Steuben

Bus service from Bangor to the Steuben Country Store is provided by West's Coastal Connections from the Concord station or the airport (207-546-2823; in Maine, 800-596-2823; or call Concord Trailways at 207-945-4000). There is one daily trip (1:50 hours) departing from Bangor at about 3:00 PM. Make sure to allow time for baggage pickup and in case of a flight delay. The bus arrives in Steuben at about 4:50 PM. It departs from Steuben once daily at about 11:15 AM and arrives in Bangor at about 1:15 PM. Times may vary, so an inquiry is essential. Participants can call the Institute upon arrival in Steuben to arrange for a car ride, but please notify us in advance (207-546-2821 Ext 4 or 718-715-2824).

Train

Amtrak (800-872-7245) provides train service to Portland, where the terminal is shared with Concord Trailways, which provides bus service on to Bangor (see above).

Taxi

Brad’s Cab (207-941-9695) offers a discounted price of $100 for the 1:45 hour trip from Bangor to the Institute. To meet taxi regulations, you must call ahead of time to arrange this by phone. If you walk up to a cab upon arrival without doing so, you will be charged full price. Payment needs to be by cash or check.
